According to the Nigerian police, one of their Anti-crime patrol team on patrol around Baba Ode area, Onibukun Ota were attracted to gunshot sounds and immediately moved to the vicinity where suspected armed robbery syndicate was seen attacking the vigilante men in the neighbourhood.
Police engaged the robbery gang in a shootout that lasted till 2:30am, one of the armed robbery suspects was fatally injured while others fled with gunshot injuries. One locally-made short gun with two live cartridges, a wooden carved gun and two Bajaj motorcycles were recovered from the hoodlums.
Corpse of suspect deposited at the State Hospital mortuary Ota for autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members. State CIID Abeokuta is investigating.
