At least eight people have been killed in a shooting attack on a shopping centre in Munich, German police said, adding that up to three perpetrators were on the run.
A major police operation was under way on Friday around the Olympia shopping centre in the southern city, police said, urging Munich residents to stay off the streets.
Munich police spokesman Marcus Da Gloria Martin said it was impossible to tell how many people were wounded in the attack.
Police said later on Friday they were investigating whether one of the bodies found at the scene was that of a perpetrator.
No suspects had been arrested, police said, and there was no information about the possible motives of the attack.
