Charly Boy has revealed what it felt like to have an ear piercing 42 years ago in a conservative society. He wrote;

I remember some 42yrs ago when I pierced my right ear spotting a diamond ear ring, my relatives and many people then felt disappointed they thought I was irresponsible. Now see how many irresponsible people all over the place, especially most artiste.
By the time I had my tattoos, they felt very sorry for my parents for having a wayward son.
Remember all the time's I stood up for my rights when people were afraid to talk, even fought for other people when I felt they were being victimised? they labelled me a trouble maker. Na wa.
I speak my mind and call a spade a spade they say am I'm mouthy, I too dey like show myself. Dem say I be notice me. Remember the famous photo shoot where I kissed my son Derenle, they shouted, "he is gay" they forget I'm a drama king. What about the time I took pictures in a casket advertising my friends funeral home, they went ballistic and called me occultic, illuminati, Ogboni. I just dey laff the mumu people.
If you're gay, its a sin. If you're bisexual, you're confused. If you're introverted, they say you're proud. If you have a lot of female friends, they say you're a player a born womaniser.. Whenever I do my stunts as Charlyboy, they say am on drugs and wonder what gives me the courage to do the things I do.
Love me or hate me, you will never change me. Seems like you can't do anything these days without being labeled. So bloody what, go ahead and label me, see if I give a fuckkk
