For years, mischief makers have accused comedian Alibaba who was a favourite comedian for politicians especially during the Obasanjo administration of collecting money from government too. Perhaps, he was just getting paid for a service rendered but some people have continued to trouble the comedian.
He has been silent on the topic but he decided to address it today on his social media page. He wrote;
Back in the days, it was common to hear "Silence is Golden". Not anymore. Ignorance is now contagious. And ignoring ignorance is one reason its on the increase. So let me treat this Akamu's own ignorance before it matures & becomes airborne. Channels Television, AIT, Thisday, Vanguard & indeed many Airlines, fashion designers, event venues and advertising agencies rendered services to many people who have occupied political offices. They are still patronized.
No one has accused them of hobnobing (ok maybe one or 2) but you get my drift. The core thing many fail to get is that I am an entertainer & apolitical. I have always worked for any party that needed my services. I have mceed event for PDP in Abuja & flown in to do a fund raiser for APC. Thats service. When you mount a billboard at a strategic part of town & any party thinks the position of the board will add value to their campaign, they will approach you. That doesn't water down your values.
Except if you then stop to express yourself without inhibitions because you are influenced by commercial fraternity. Then you become partisan. And even at that, you can still be partisan and objective. I don't see anyone calling any airline partisan, because they were flying party members across the country during elections and after. Newspaper houses were running adverts daily on a steady for politicians. They got paid.
Did you ask them to stop publishing? Do you know what the political affiliations of your tailor? Or plumber? Or boss? Let's even look at it like this, so bankers should never speak where anyone is speaking about national issues and economic downturn since they help provide banking services to these politicians. Do you want to compare the fees i get paid for services I render at these events to the monies that bankers helped politicians process... and the profit made from same? No. That will not cross your timid mind. And by that I mean uninformed mind. Before you will say I insulted you.
Anyway let's be clear, I work for Muslims, Christians and Atheist alike. It doesn't make me a member of their faith. I am a Nigerian first. I provide services to clients who need same for a fee.
