Kaduna state government commends Gbagyi chief, orders probe of Narayi, Sabon Tasha incident

Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has commended the leadership role played by traditional rulers, led by His Royal Highness, Sa Gbayi, Dr. Danjuma Barde,in dousing tension in Narayi High Cost and Sabon Tasha. The government has also directed that the attempt to breach the peace in those areas be subjected to thorough investigation.

A government statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, spokesperson to Governor El-Rufai, disclosed that the government will order the prosecution of anyone indicted by the investigation.
“The Kaduna State Government commends traditional rulers, led by the Sa Gbagyi, Dr. Danjuma Barde, who assisted security forces to thwart the criminal attempts to instigate a breakdown of law and order in the Narayi and Sabon-Tasha areas of Kaduna metropolis.
“Investigations have been ordered to unravel the cause and persons involved in the attempted disturbance. As expected in a law-governed society, prosecutions would follow for all persons that may be indicted.
“For the umpteenth time, government and security agencies wish to warn those peddling fake stories of unrest to desist. The insinuation of religious and ethnic undertones into every event has become a dangerous pastime in some circles. Given the legacy of hateful and destructive violence decades of divisive ethno-religious rhetoric have wreaked on lives and property in the state, the merchants of such narratives cannot be said to mean well for the state.
“Government commends security operatives for prompt action and deployments to the areas. This dislodged the hoodlums, and enabled the clearance of tyres that were used to mount illegal roadblocks.
“It is important that all citizens must maintain vigilance, and think through the consequences of their actions.”
