This story will hurt you in a way that is unexplainable. Yet I feel like you will blame this man for building on his brother's land. Read on;
My Name is Field Tembo.I am 55-years old. I came to Lusaka in 1990 to nurse my sick young brother after he lost his wife to HIV/Aids. There was no one to look after him and his 10 year old daughter, Mwanida.
I managed to get a transfer from where i used to work in Chipata and came to work in Lusaka.
My wife and I moved in my brother's house and we started living together in Lilayi.
When my brother died in early 1991, I took full responsibility of his daughter. I treated her like my own child especially that i have never had kids of my own. I educated her from primary school up to the time she graduated from the university. She is now 37-years.
We Lived in my brother's house for over 27-years.
And after I got my pension, I extended my brother's house and built a flat on the same land.I also built a chicken run and a pigsty ( pig house),and I also sponsored Mwanida's kitchen party.
We had no issues in our family until when Mwanida got married two-years ago.She suddenly started acting funny, stopped visiting and picking my calls.
Six months after her wedding I received a letter informing Me that "I have three months to vacate her parent's house."The letter was delivered to Me by a relative from her mother's side.
I couldn't understand why a person I raised like my own daughter would want me to vacate the house.I tried to reason with her but in vain.
Next I only received court summons. And at the court she claimed I grabbed her late parent's house and land.
The court ruled in her favour and asked me to vacate the house and she was given everything that is on that piece of land including the Flat, chicken run and the pigsty .I was told not to demolish any structure that I built using my pension money.I was told I will be sent to prison for vandalism and property damage if I do that.
I was given three months to vacate the house.
My wife couldn't handle the pressure, she died three months ago of BP and what's saddening is that, Mwanida did not even show up at the funeral.
It's been a year since I vacated the house.I still don't understand why Mwanida treated me like that.
I am now renting a two rooms house in Kanyama.I don't even know where I will find the money to pay for rent when rent is due next month.
I spent all my pension money extending the house, built a flat and had plans of starting chicken and pig farming.
I lost everything that i worked for in my life.I have been reduced to a destitute and sometimes i do piece works in farms.
What's sad is that, the house is now being occupied by her rich mother's young brother who was no where to be seen when I was struggling paying for her education. He just resurfaced after she graduated from university and brainwashed her.
She has abandoned me in preference to her mother's family.
I just wish her happiness in her life.
