Mr. Kayode Ogundamisi a social activist shared a story about a UK born Nigerian film maker who brought a ridiculous proposal to the governors office and called her and many others who partake in sending exorbitant estimates to government in the quest for getting a bite of the national cake. He wrote:
I Met a UK-Born Nigerian filmmaker @ waiting lounge of a friend who is now a State Governor. She was pitching N54M for a 1 hour documentary. I engaged the lady & ask if she could ever send in a proposal to any UK GOV agency to pay equivalent of N54M for a 1 hour documentary? She replied that the "risks" in Nigeria is responsible for seeming 'high pricing' when submitting proposals to Nigerian government agencies
I left the lady at the reception, really feeling sorry 4 Nigeria. Another 'Tokunbo' here to milk from the famous National Cake.. I was going to challenge my friend the Governor about the 1 hour documentary proposal & its benefit , considering he had just been in govt.
I forgot to raise the issue as my friend the Gov was then keen to hear my feedback on the situation in Maiduguri after my visit.
So yesterday I put a call to the Governors media person to find out about the N54M documentary proposal by our away based film maker. I was pleased when he told me the ridiculous proposal was thrown into the dust bin & that they get such ridiculous bid EVERY DAY.
My point is some Nigerian entrepreneurs think getting ridiculously paid 4 simple jobs is 'legitimate business' they beatify stealing.
When young people collect millions of government funds as donations from State Governors to stage awards, they are as guilty as hell. So called entrepreneurs act as enablers of corruption, help public officials in stealing public money disguised as 'LEGITIMATE DEALS
So when you are paid N100M of public funds for a service that should usually be rendered for N2M you are a corruption enabler.
Nothing CREATIVE in gaining from overinflated contracts, proposals, advertisement & patronage. It is STEALING painted under business. We must develop a moral compass even as we make money, that 'few millions' are sourced from money meant for armed forces & others. As we point crooked fingers @ those in public office we should look at the activities of enablers of graft disguised as entrepreneurs.
It is those who have no access to 'FREE MONEY' today that scream the most against Muhammadu Buhari. If you want to make money get more CREATIVE. Government should not be the sole source of 'few millions' now is the time we put a stamp to know we are depriving millions of Nigerians Entrepreneurs in other climes only demand from government to create a stable environment, sound fiscal policy not DONATE PUBLIC FUNDS.
Corruption isn't some spirit from outer space, that over bloated fund received from government is nothing but BLOOD MONEY.
Nigeria is in dire need of scarce funds. Freely DONATING it to people under the guise of entrepreneurship is evil, lazy & unjust. So when next you are staging those phoney AWARDS stay away from government for funds, GET CREATIVE we need funds to uplift millions. We have to stop Nigeria from being a chronic RENTAL ECONOMY where citizens depend on collecting illicit RENTS from public officials.
Real entrepreneurs can be found on the streets of Aba, Lagos, Jos selling in traffic, not briefcase consultants who do nothing but LOOT
It is SME govt needs to focus on, provide right policy & you will see business boom again, time to stop distributing FEW MILLIONS is now
