Gay activist Bisi Alimi writes on courage 'It is the action that you take when you have a lot to lose.'

The Nigerian Gay activist who is living openly as a gay man in the UK wrote;
Courage, for me, is the action that you take when you have a lot to lose. The determination to do something at a time when the odds are against you. Sometimes my view about it is very controversial; [I think] it takes courage to commit suicide, or to fall in love, or to contest for political positions. Courage, most times, people think is that one massive big thing that you do; but for a lot of us, the little things that we do to move out of our own space.
For me it was about coming out; leaving all that I know in [Nigeria] to move to London; having a tattoo on my body that expresses how I feel. Courage means so many things, but it always comes from when you look deep inside of you and say I am going to do this for me.” - Bisi Alimi, LGBT activist and Fellow of the Salzburg Global LGBT Forum, explains what it means to have courage at the Salzburg Global Seminar 70th Anniversary June Board Meeting Weekend, “Courage”
