Senator Bukola Saraki, Former governor of Kwara state has been elected as the new senate President. Saraki defeated Ahmed Lawan ( who was preferred by the APC)
Dino Melaye seconded his nomination while Sai Yerima nomited him. He has been sworn into office.In other developments, immediate past deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has been re-elected.
